João Rodrigues joins chefs’ wing in May

In May, when the Time Out Market marks its fifth anniversary, a new member is welcomed to the chefs’ wing, with the executive chef at the restaurant Feitoria (at the Altis Belém hotel) joining the top chefs already established in the Market – Alexandre Silva, Miguel Castro e Silva, Henrique Sá Pessoa and Marlene Vieira.

João Rodrigues started out at Bica do Sapato, before joining the team at the restaurant Pragma (at the Casino Lisboa) and then moving on to the Ritz hotel. In 2007 he won the Chef Cozinheiro do Ano (Chef of the Year) competition, after which he joined the team that opened Feitoria, together with head chef José Cordeiro. In 2014 Rodrigues took over the reins at Feitoria (which has held onto a Michelin star for eight straight years), where he practises a cuisine that respects ingredients and local producers, in keeping with the seasons. He will be bringing into the Time Out Market this same basis and identity of his cuisine at Feitoria, where he serves 30 to 40 meals a night, but with the major new challenge of adapting it to the market.
