Time Out Market
receives “restaurant Oscar”
We didn’t go to Hollywood, but we did go to Hamburg to receive an ‘Oscar’. Time Out Market Lisboa has just been awarded an international prize commonly known as a “restaurant Oscar”. The Hamburg Food Service Prize is one of the most respected and sought-after European prizes in the gourmet and hospitality industry. This year the jury selected the Time Out Market – a Portuguese idea created from scratch by the team that founded the Time Out Lisboa magazine – as “one of Europe’s most visionary concepts” in the restaurant business. The Hamburg Food Service Prize, since its launch in 1983, has honoured a wide range of individuals, concepts and spaces in Europe. Previous winners in the past 30 years or so have included Pret A Manger, Vapiano, Wagamama and Ikea (restaurants) and other big retail and restaurant chains such as McDonald’s, Migros and Blue Elephant. The prizes are awarded by a panel of specialists and industry representatives from across Europe.Housed in Lisbon’s Mercado da Ribeira, the Time Out Market Lisboa is the world’s first three-dimensional editorial project. An idea born in Lisbon, it is now in the process of expanding internationally, with openings already planned in Miami, Boston and Chicago.
