Beach Pie is the first attempt at a pizza place by James Beard Award–winner Norman Van Aken. Drawing from his experiences operating the globally inspired restaurant Mundo, Van Aken is elevating the simple thin-crust pizza with some truly world-class ingredients. One standout topping is the “drunken” figs, which are softened over hours spent soaking in port wine, but others include Taleggio cheese, cashew cheese (for a vegan-friendly pie!) and Redlands-sourced veggies. You may not have thought of Van Aken as a pizzaiolo, but by the time you finish your first slice, you’ll know he’s the real thing.
