A month full of Christmas

There’s no better place to enjoy the magic of Christmas than in a market. It was with that in mind that Time Out Market has devised a packed calendar of events for the month of December that will bring life to all its various spaces: the Time Out Academy, the Time Out Studio and the Food Hall itself.

On 2 December the Food Hall will unveil its Christmas decorations, marking the start of a month packed with concerts, cookery workshops and markets where you can find the best presents, among other initiatives. Music is another thing that you can’t do without at Christmas, and the Food Hall will be hosting various performances, starting with Shout! – a concert of gospel music on 2 December. Then there is a veritable Fanfarra Natalícia (Christmas fanfare) from the band Alta Cena on 11 and 21 December, while the Tropical Christmas concert – a tribute to 100 years of samba on 19 December promises to sweep everyone in the rhythms of samba and other Brazilian classics, as well as some tropical versions of traditional Christmas tunes.

While music is essential, so are Christmas markets and fairs. Given that everyone wants to buy original Christmas presents, preferably from Portugal, the Time Out Studio will be hosting three separate Christmas markets. A Day in the Market takes place on 2 December, this time with some 30 fashion and accessories brands, featuring suggestions of presents for babies, children and women. On Sunday, 9 December, Stock Off M.I.U.D.O.S returns to the Time Out Studio with 14 Portuguese brands of clothing and accessories for babies and kids. From 21 to 23 December the Xmas Creative Market, held for the first time at the Time Out Market, will be showcasing 100% Portuguese products and projects.

Since in December people tend to gather around the table, the Time Out Academy has the perfect range of activities for those who like to learn and get stuck in. If you want to avoid the more obvious bacalhau (salt cod) recipes, the Academy is organising a workshop of “bacalhau recipes to surprise”. With the aim of bringing together parents with children, uncles and aunts with nephews and nieces, grand–parents and grand–children, the Academy is inviting the whole family to take part in a Christmas Cookies workshop for adults and children, complete with tasting. The calendar of events also includes a workshop with star Portuguese chef Kiko Martins, a chocolate masterclass and a wine course for the holidays, among many others.
